maxon motor has now made a name for itself in the dental industry as a manufacturer of high-performance ceramic implants, abutments, drills and surgical instruments. To do so, it has drawn on its 20-year experience of using technical ceramic components in its drive components.
maxon motor develops and produces ceramic implant systems as OEM for several dental companies. This includes innovative and flexible start-ups as well as renowned and well-known heavyweights of the dental market.
The first ceramic implants and ceramic abutments have successfully come through their test in the market.
More and more patients are asking for metal-free, hypoallergenic treatment, but also have higher requirements in terms of aesthetics and long-term function. Normal consumer behavior does not stop for medical technology: the patient with access to the Internet compares prices and obtains several quotes before deciding on which treatment to choose.
For a long time, high prices prevented the widespread use of ceramic implants. maxon motor's ceramic power injection molding is an inexpensive and reliable manufacturing process which means that ceramic implants will be available to a wider circle of patients in future.
The previously sensitive issue of tensile strength has been solved using a design suitable for ceramics and yttrium-stabilized zirconium dioxide ceramics. A special ceramic surface was developed to guarantee secure and rapid osseointegration. In a cell culture test, it proved to be similar, if not marginally superior, to a state-of- the-art titanium surface. An ongoing animal experiment will soon place this result on a scientific basis. The first few patients have been treated with maxon implants and have been delighted with their function and aesthetic appearance for the past 3 years.
